Chris Davis – Martial Body – Connected Body

How strength feels

Strength is a funny thing, often it is directly linked to aesthetics and how someone looks, big muscles = strong! But practically speaking for the Martial Artist, what is more important is how ‘strong’ you can feel to the opponent … and that isn’t always the same as how much you can dead lift! Many of the ‘strongest’ martial artists in the world feel unusual. Why? Because their level of apparent strength doesn’t match their appearance.

The whole body drives every motion

This effect is the result of using the whole body to fuel even the smallest motions. These experts use the co-ordination of their tissues and frame to drive every movement from every muscle and connective tissue in the body. As such even a slight motion can have the full force of the whole body acting behind it. That’s a lot of power!

Linking the body along major lines of connection.

The Connected Body is achieved when the practitioner is able to fuel every motion with co-ordination of effort. It occurs when we have developed the tissues and associated neurological links of the major body lines. These are major lines of connection that link the body together through the center of the body. The Axis, The Crotch Arch, The Side Lines, The Arm Bridges and The Cross Body Lines.

For rehabilitation and recovery

It is said that virtually every major injury in the life of an athlete is to the connective tissues or bones. When you are not moving with consolidation or are inefficient you tend to get injured. Many methods will train the musculature to try to protect the joints, but in the connected body method we also focus on training the connective tissues themselves and the neurology that controls the whole system. Strengthening the connectivity inside our bodies will allow us to avoid overloading individual muscles or joints so that we can protect them from injury
