Description

In this course, Tristan will deliver two presentations discussing and defining the role of energy systems development (ESD) within the context of a training system. In presentation one, he will contrast the traditional approach to cardiovascular training with ESD. Specific emphasis will be placed on identifying metabolic zones, identifying weaknesses in metabolic zones, and how to influence adaptation through intensity/time manipulation. In presentation two, Tristan will provide recommendations for programming ESD based on individual needs and sport/life demands. Both presentations work together to provide detailed program design recommendations and considerations for the Energy Systems Development training component.

The ESD practical will focus on strategies for circuit based conditioning. Specific emphasis will be placed on how to coach and set intent during an ESD session. Coaching ESD is a novel concept and this session provides insights on how to maximize the athlete/clients output within each ESD session.
